Our First Family Camping Trip

Last Friday, we hopped in the Jeep and headed out to Champoeg State Park to camp with Matt & Ali. The week before, Ali and I were chatting about Memorial Day weekend, and thought it would be fun to go on an overnight camping trip. Honestly, we weren’t sure if Alba was going to love it or hate it, so we wanted to test the water. In hindsight, we should have realized she’s 5 months old, and wouldn’t really care about sleeping away from home … We filled the Jeep … For. One. Night. Two nights would have been fine.

When we arrived, Matt & Ali had their country music blaring, the fire going, and some snacks to share. We made vegan hotdogs, potato salad, and baked beans for dinner. It was the perfect camping meal. We drank some beer, shared laughs, and enjoyed our evening by the fire. I think Alba went down for the night around 9:30 (later than normal, but we weren’t too concerned with keeping her on schedule). We brought her changing table pad to act as her little bed (next to our air mattress), we have a baby sleeping bag (a super-thick fleece bag meant for her stroller), and did jammies plus a fleece sleeper. We topped it all with her little beanie, and she stayed toasty all night.

In the morning, we made breakfast tacos, and decided to open a bottle of wine and play Cards Against Humanity before packing up the tent.

As photographers, we see trends … Hell, we even take part in certain trends. This is the ol’ “hipster holding a piece of nature” thing. Alba’s face says it all!

Our first trip was a total success. Al slept through the night. Thank you baby girl!! We had a great time with our dear friends, and laughed until our faces hurt. A good night, indeed.
