Most Monday nights, you can find us raging: aka, me sitting on the couch knitting while we catch up on TV from the week. Serious partying going on in NW Portland, you guys! Well, to really prove that we aren’t actually 70, we decided we’d go see a show at the Doug Fir. I found out last week that Adam Green & Binki Shapiro were coming to town, and I was so excited. I’ve been excited about their new album for awhile, and it was so lovely to see them in person. I had no idea we’d also be seeing a Portland band called ‘Duover’. They are amazing! I absolutely love guy/gal duos, and since starting to play the ukulele (so hardcore), I’ve been really into watching musicians play acoustic instruments. Not only did they sound great together, their lyrics were unique, and they made me feel so happy. We used to make live music a priority, but the move totally put a stop to it. Hoping last night was the little spark we needed to get out more.
Oh, and it was our first time at the Doug Fir. That place is pretty awesome. I’ll admit, I was a little hesitant to walk anywhere by myself, as the whole bar area is lights & mirrors … I seriously thought I was going to run into a wall. Once I was in my seat, I was good! It’s the perfect venue for a smaller show … great sound, good atmosphere.
Classing it up. Obviously.
I’ve been a fan of Adam Green for a long time, but I had no idea about his moves. Those moves definitely belong to a white guy … but they made my heart warm! Oh, and he was wearing leather pants. I loved the interaction between Binki & Adam … they sound just as good (maybe better) live!
