Our New Place :: Before

We gave a little peek of the house yesterday, but I know our family has been itching to see more. After our ultrasound on Monday, we drove to the house to snap a photo of my belly on the porch. To our surprise, the owner’s mom was there & let us snap a few photos of the inside of the house. They are still transitioning out of the home, and we were so excited to see the space again. Once we’re in and settled, it’ll be even more amazing. Here are a few more photos & a little tour:

Here’s the living room. When I found out we’d have a fireplace, I was ecstatic!! I am notorious for being a popsicle in the winter. No matter how warm our place is, my mind tells me I should be cold. This fireplace will keep us cozy. We love the little seating nook around the fireplace, and this space is big enough to buy the chaise attachment for our couch.

Looking the other way from the living room … I think this room will be my office. There are a bunch of windows, built in storage, and lots of space for my desks & equipment/tools. I’m secretly hoping they leave the plants!

The dining room is gorgeous. We had a giggle about our tiny IKEA pop-up table … for now, it’ll work, but we will definitely be browsing CL for a new one. I’m a big fan of the light fixtures & built-ins. This woodwork is an awesome feature, and a nod to the booming lumber industry that helped build Portland in the early 1900’s.

Our room. Lots of light & a little closet. Boy, our old house had huge closets … our current place has one tiny closet. This new house has 3 small closets, and I am so excited!

The baby’s room. At first, I wasn’t a big fan of the carpet, but after thinking about it, it’s great. Carpet adds warmth, and this particular carpet is really high quality, and it’s in great shape. We’ll probably get a large, white, shaggy area rug to add some texture & brighten the space up even more. Baby’s room will also house a full size bed so we can sleep in there when we have visitors in town.

The bathroom. We love having a window in our bathrooms. It’s really lovely to take a shower lit by the sunshine.

If you’ve seen our current kitchen, you’ll understand why we’re so excited about this one. It’s freaking huge, and it has a dishwasher!!! There’s lots of counter & cabinet space, and we’ll probably add a screen door to keep the backdoor open most of the time. I’ve been dreaming of a kitchen with windows!!

The backyard is a dream. The perimeter is lined with flower & garden beds (we even have a fig tree), and the raised garden boxes will be perfect for growing veggies & herbs. The owners built an amazing fence with so many amazing details. We love all the hidden surprises and the character. The side yard is totally fenced as well, which has room for a chicken coop (!!!!!!) and lots of room for the pups to run. Lastly, there’s a locking bike rack that will hold 4 or 5 bikes. It’s nice that we won’t have to worry about storing the bikes in the basement.

So, that’s it for now! Our current lease is up in 3 weeks, so we’ll have an update around then. I am so excited to move … and more excited that we’ll have a home. I imagine that having the space to get baby’s room started will feel amazing … and I am going to LOVE laying in my living room on my chaise lounge. Okay, I am too excited about this couch addition, but seriously, I’ve been waiting a long time!
