On New Year’s Day, we thought we’d head out to the Columbia River Gorge for a bit of adventure. On 1/1/12, we did the exact same thing, and I love that we’ve created this beautiful tradition.
The wind was whipping … and the air was so crisp. We were definitely under-dressed, but we started to hike the trail anyways. It was the coldest air I’ve felt in Oregon since landing here, but since it was the first day of the year, it seemed like an adventure worth taking. This year, we brought the pups … they love hiking with us so much, and even with as crazy as they can be, it makes our trips so much more fun.
We only got about half-way through our hike before we had to turn back. The trail was completely iced over from the spray of the falls. Once back to the car, we decided to take a little side-trip over to Multnomah Falls for some hot coffee & fudge. Not wanting to head back home yet, we decided to drive further into the Gorge until we reached the Bridge of the Gods … We crossed the bridge, then ventured back to Portland on the Washington side of the Columbia. It was a beautiful way to see the area we love so much.
These adventures we take might only be one day, and just a stones-throw from our front door, but they truly make me feel so blessed to be alive … living my life with someone I love so much. Cheers to adventure … and even though we’re already 26 days in, cheers to making 2013 the happiest year yet.
Here’s our adventure.
